Two new ferries with Norwegian electric propulsion systems are on schedule for delivery to the UK for the end of 2018.

The ferries are currently being built at the Remontowa Shipbuilding, Gdansk. Norwegian Electric Systems is supplying the hybrid electric propulsion to power four high efficient thrusters to ensure flexible manoeuvrability of the vessels.

The vessels will be operated by Transport for London between Woolwich and North Woolwich across the River Thames. The Woolwich Ferry has been operating since 1889 and carries around 20.000 vehicles and 2.6 million passengers a year across the River Thames.

The contract has a value of NOK 25-30m.
